Description:
The sculpture is a 3-D rendition of an ink silhouette. I often develop ideas for sculpture through making reams of ink silhouettes in an effort to discover something strange. I recreate the flat silhouette as sculpture.
Here I made silhouettes on opened sheets of newspapers, and incorporated shapes from advertising and news photos. The sculpted female body reflects the interchangeable, contradictory meanings of advertisement, functional object, and architecture.
